The LRS has had a number of newsletters over the years, before being superseded by a website:

1948:                         Radio Amateur News  - Edinburgh & District

(Described in RSGB Bulletin as a "racy publication"!

1960-65; 1967; 1995   The Lothians Radio Amateur

1997 - 2002                BUZZ Magazine

1998 - present:           Website

Radio Amateur News - Edinburgh & District

Dick Richardson GM3AKM kindly provided two issues of this publication (No. 2 - May/June 1948) & No. 3 - July 1948) for scanning. It was a simple typed and duplicated newsletter and was edited by E.W. Stewart GM3HX of Craiglockhart, Edinburgh. Issue No. 2 includes the AGM Meeting Notice, an article on "Learning the Code" by Bill Blyth GM5YX and a report by "2HDH" on Field Day which was operated from "Zoo Hill Top".

LRA - The Lothians Radio Amateur

The Lothians Radio Amateur club magazine (LRA) was published from 1960 to-1965. The first editor was SWL Len Lumsden from April 1960, followed by John Hughes GM3LCP from September 1963 to April 1965 when he moved to Glasgow. It was revived briefly in 1967 by John Kelly GM3POK and again in 1995 by Mel Evans GM6JAG. Many issues of the LRA are preserved in the archives box of the LRS, held by the Secretary.

The first few issues had a very simple front-cover which included the index:

A more attractive cover was designed by Bill Sutherland GM3JWS

and was used for later issues:

The LRA was revived in 1995 by Mel Evans GM6JAG but appears to have run for only two issues, in September and October.

BUZZ Magazine

The BUZZ newsletter ran for about 15 issues between 1997 and 2002, edited by Norrie Stewart GM1CNH

to Issue 5, Winter 1998 and then from Summer 1999 onwards by Brian Howie GM4DIJ.

Internet Websites

Of course, with the coming of the Internet the obvious modern way to communicate with LRS members was via e-mail and a website. The website was started by Norrie Stewart GM1CNH in 1998 with the URL:

www.btinternet.com/~jacobite/radio/lothians.html

Brian Flynn GM8BJF in xxxx. An upgraded site using Joomla software was introduced in 2010 by John Cooke GM8OTI and has been edited since the start by Alan Masson GM3PSP. The ease of use of digital photographs has helped to enhance the value of the website.
