Malcolm Fergusson talked about the Ultra secret (the WWII German communications decoded at Bletchley Park) and the SCU-3 (Special Communications Unit) located in 1940 at Cockburn Farm near Balerno (where he lives). Attendance was a great 26, including Zoom.

Viral Net #90, Wed 16 March.
Present: Colin GM4HWO (c), Briain GM8PKL, Peter GM4DTH, Alan GM3PSP, Peter GM0PXV, Brian GM8BJF (Peebles), Bill GM8SQM, George GM4COK/DUIGM (Philippines), Pete GM4BYF, Mike GM8KCS/M.
Colin had just reduced his Landrover collection from 3 to 2 (real, not Dinky toys). Briain had been busy installing a new toilet and was celebrating with a Rioja. Not celebrating plans to build a tall extension next door. Peter DTH would have the audio recordings up soon including the last net with George's first appearance. Alan had been busy on the website, and looking forward to the next LRS meeting about Bletchley Park and a WWII Special Communications Unit near Balerno. Peter PXV had been sorting out his shack and doing a loft conversion. George was delighted to be on again via his 10,600km fiber-optic mic cable into BJF's remote Tx at Riselaw, at 04:00h local in the Phiippines! Brian (Peebles) would write up his set-up for the website. He was leaving on Friday to stay with Bruce in Mallorca and looking forward to the Spanish gin. Bill has had lots to do. He has 1980 RadComs for sale. Pete BYF was busy with preps for the Junk Sale on Apr 20th but will not be there himself. The 23cm contest last night was "dire" with only 8 QSOs. Still working on selling GM8GEC-SK items, as is Colin. Mike (mobile) just called in to say Hi to George.

"Astrodynamics without the mathematics - how to fly spacecraft" - John Cooke GM8OTI
Summary: "We send a lot of stuff into Earth orbit, and (more interesting) to other planets, moons and other objects in the solar system (and even beyond). As radio amateurs we know how to communicate with these probes - but how do we get them there, and how do we put them where we want them? This talk explains, without recourse to detailed mathematics - though lots of physics concepts are used, along with diagrams and demonstrations."

On 23rd February 2022 Brian Howie GM4DIJ gave "An Introduction to OpenEMS,
a Free Electro-Magnetic Simulator".
Brian writes: "OpenEMS is a free and open electromagnetic field solver using the Finite Difference Time Domain method. It was created by Thortsten Liebig at the General & Theoretical Engineering University in Germany. FTDT is a time-domain approximation of Maxwell's equations to calculate the results. I have described antenna modelling using NEC2, mainly for wire antennas in previous talks. The big advantage of OpenEMS over NEC2 is that it can simulate complex structures, such as patch, horn antennas waveguides and bulk dielectric materials with different EM properties. I will demonstrate how to create simple models and show some of the work I've done and some of the tutorials supplied".
