LRS table at Cockenzie rallyLRS visits

- to amateur radio rallies, conferences, meetings

The LRS again had an information table at the Cockenzie & Port Seton Radio Club "Mini-Rally" on Friday 12th August.  At the table we showed an updated version of the LRS Powerpoint promo and distributed LRS information brochures and cards. Several potential new members signed up to receive information about LRS meetings. Two LRS members were successful in the raffle. This was a great occasion to meet up with members of other clubs in the area and of course to pick up some bargains. At least nine LRS members attended the event (out of a total attendance of about 150, according to the organizer, Bob Glasgow GM4UYZ): GM4BYF, GM8OTI, GM3PSP, GM4ZOA, GM1GEQ, MM0FMF, GM1CQC, GM4HWO & GM4UPN.

At least ten members of the Lothians Radio Society travelled to Blackpool to attend the Norbreck Rally on April 10th. We drove down the previous day and had our traditional Pub & Curry evening. At the rally, the high point was the presentation to the LRS group of the Cockenzie Quaich. Thanks to persistent lobbying by Colin GM4HWO and Brian GM4DIJ the RSGB had agreed that the Cockenzie Quaich would be presented to the LRS at this event for our success in winning Top Scottish Club in the Restricted Section of VHF-NFD in 2010. The presentation was made by RSGB President Dave Wilson M0OBW (who was also the Exhibition Manager for this rally - busy man)!

Continuing the never-ending quest for the world's largest naan, Colin GM4HWO

examined this one but it was agreed that the Himalaya Restaurant in Edinburgh

still held the record.

The Lothians Radio Society had a table at the Galashiels Rally on Sunday 17th October to promote the club and seek new members. It was manned by LRS President John GM8OTI and Alan GM3PSP. The new LRS promotional programme of photographs of recent meetings, DF Hunt, social events and portable contests was shown continuously on a laptop computer. Copies of the LRS brochure and the 2010-11 meetings programme were distributed. Congratulations to LRS Treasurer Peter GM4DTH for winning the raffle at the rally!

The Lothians Radio Society had a promotional table with the new GM3HAM banner and staffed by LRS President John GM8OTI at this event. A number of positive enquiries about LRS membership were received. At least 12 LRS members attended.

Something the LRS does not have - a spacious QTH building.

A number of Lothians members made the traditional annual pilgrimage to the Norbreck Castle Hotel in Blackpool for the Northern Amateur Radio Societies Association rally, and returned with items to grace their shacks / roofs or to be added to the next Lothians junk sale.
