In this section are listed the Silent Key (Obituary) notices for members and former members of the Lothians Radio Society and other local Radio Amateurs.

 

LRS member Dr Brian J Wilson MM0WZB died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday 15th February after a brave battle with myeloma lasting several years.

Brian's memorial service was held on Friday 22nd February 2013 at Fairmilehead Parish Church and was attended by several members of the LRS.

The year after Brian's passing, his widow Judith abseiled from the Forth Road Bridge in his memory. Click for report.

It is with regret that we record the passing of Walter R Brunsdon GM8LVJ in hospital on Thursday 10th January 2013. Walter was the father of LRS member Mike Brunsdon GM8KCS and grandfather of Mike Brunsdon Jr MM3MDB. He was described as "a real character, and his stories of pre-war Edinburgh and his time in the RAF during WWII were fascinating". 

His funeral was held on 19th January 2013 at St Ninian & Triduana Roman Catholic Church and Seafield Cemetery & Crematorium.

Former LRS member Bill Eaton GM3KIG died peacefully on 2nd January 2013. Bill was President of the Lothians in 1961-62 and a keen Field Day operator. See photos in LRS Archive. Click for Scotsman obituary.

The funeral will be held at Warriston Crematorium at 3pm on Friday 11th January 2013.

 
Former LRS member Alister J Mitchell GM3UDL died on 15th December 2012 in Glasgow. Alister was the CCF Signals Sergeant at George Watson's College and active in the LRS in the 1960s, running several Field Days and other portable events. He spent most of his career with the BBC. He was an expert on military radio equipment and was working on his second book on that subject for the Wireless Set No.19 Group. Click for Silent Key on the Watsons Radio Club site.
 
Alister's funeral on 8th December 2012 at Linn Crematorium, Glasgow was followed by a reception at the nearby King's Park Hotel which was attended by several members of the LRS and former BBC colleagues.
