Invention and Inspiration in the Digital Age

Speaker: Prof. Bill Kennedy,

(Professor of Photocommunications at St. Edward’s University, Austin, Texas)

DearSupporter,

The next Lecture takes place in 10 days’ time and I hope you’ll be able to join us – it promises to be yet another very popular and satisfying evening! Here are a few details.

Bill Kennedy’s talk will weave together several threads, using the transformation of photography from a chemical process to an electronic system and to explore connections between the ‘here-and-now’ and the early development of photography.

He comments that there is even a connection between events, apparently as unrelated as Alexander Bain’s invention of the facsimile machine in 1843; a French software entrepreneur’s desire to share photographs of his newborn child; political assassinations on a beach in Liberia! and explains that each contributes uniquely to the story of how photography is transitioning from film to digital imaging.

It is a story about technology and, more importantly, how technology effects personal and social change

Bill adds:-

“I do hope this talk will be of interest to your members and guests. It will feature a short roster of Scottish luminaries ranging from James Clerk Maxwell to Hill & Adamson and the Royal Society”.
