Aurora from Dyke, Moray.
Peter GM4DTH reports that an X1.9 flare and an associated CME were responsible for the events last night. The Kp index exceeded 8 and visual aurora was reports as far south as Cornwall with images used as a backdrop on the television weather forecast. The only features in the sky here were clouds.
It did alter the reception of my WSPR beacons. All skywave disappeared from top band between 21:12 and 23:28. Skywave started to return with G7CKX/SDR5 returning at 23:28 having faded out at 21:12. The first continental station to return was PD0OHW at 00:12. MF range was limited to the UK and EI.
At the other end of the HF spectrum my 10m was being propagated to Iceland and Finland. This would have been auroral. The question is had the aurora extended well to the south to provide the paths?
