Dr Brian Flynn GM8BJF described the long history of the 1296MHz (23cm) beacon GB3EDN in Edinburgh and its various upgrades over the years.
One of the many pages of the official application to install and operate the GB3EDN beacon.
The two original antennas were commercially-available corner reflectors. These were positioned to beam NE and SE. With time, the reflector panels deteriorated and fell off!
Brian GM4DIJ designed the TTL keyer using diode-matrix circuitry.
The original beacon hardware was installed in a box on the wall of a top-floor wall in the Electrical Engineering building of Edinburgh University at Kings Buildings.
Many thanks to Brian for another great talk on one of his many contributions to Amateur Radio in Scotland.
